November 25 @ Bridgestone Arena

Eventbrite-Header Transparent
Great turnout at the November 25, 2019 Smashville Cybersecurity Talk at Bridgestone Arena!
We watched as the Predators warmed up for the exciting 3-2 shootout victory over the St. Louis Blues later that night, got some cool swag and talked about cybersecurity.
Some points we covered:
  • We're at war, and the bad guys are winning.
  • You have valuable data no matter what the industry. At minimum:
    • Employee data
    • Customer data
  • A lot of things traditionally not covered under the protection of IT’s security posture have significant security implications.
  • The biggest security threats are people, old systems (IT/ OT) that cannot be properly maintained, new, disruptive technologies (IoT) that are not fully understood.
  • Buildings are now more complex and more connected than ever before. Every modern building system relies on cyber-vulnerable technology.
  • The facilities teams tasked with managing OT/ IoT systems are not adequately equipped to secure them.
  • Digital and physical security are no longer separate things.
  • Enterprise IT (and MSPs) MUST Embrace OT/ IoT.
  • 73% of breaches start with third-party vendors.
  • Compliance is not security.
  • People do business with those they trust.
  • Security is not going to be convenient.
  • No product can be absolutely secure.
  • “Did you make a reasonable effort to protect your data...?” That is the question CISOs have to answer after a breach.
  • Cybersecurity, while a large part, is only a part of the conversation that needs to be had when designing or renovating a building.

October 24 @ Desano Pizza Bakery

Great turnout for the Infragard Fall Social in Nashville at Desano's Pizza Bakery!

Some points we covered:

  • “Did you make a reasonable effort to protect your data...?” That is the question CISOs have to answer after a breach.
  • We have been conditioned that technology should protect our employees. That is backward–our employees have to start protecting our technology.
  • Buildings are now more complex and more connected than ever before. Every modern building system relies on cyber-vulnerable technology.
  • Compliance is not security.
  • Verizon 2019 cybersecurity report
    • 73% of breaches are caused by third-party vendors
